
Srinagar, June 15: Three individuals have drowned in two separate incidents in the Jammu and Kashmir regions of Ganderbal and Jammu. Authorities reported that two people went missing after falling into an electric canal near the Ramwari area of Ganderbal district. In response, a large-scale search and rescue operation was initiated on Monday.
The police indicated that the incident occurred when two individuals fell into the canal near Gund-21, prompting immediate mobilization of rescue teams.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local volunteers from Gund and Ganderbal have been conducting extensive searches in the canal and surrounding areas for the missing persons.
Rescue teams are working under challenging conditions as they search the entire area of the canal, and the operation is ongoing. Senior officials are monitoring the situation, while local residents have also joined the rescue efforts.
In a separate incident, a teenager is feared dead after slipping into the Tawi River in Jammu. Reports suggest that a tragic event unfolded when a 15-year-old student fell into the river while taking a selfie near the Hari Ka Pauri area. Following this, rescue agencies launched a large-scale search operation.
The teenager has been identified as Yudhveer Singh Chib, the son of Puran Singh, a resident of the Kuljivani area in Jammu. According to reports, Yudhveer was at the riverbank with friends when the incident occurred. He lost his balance while attempting to take a selfie and slipped into the fast-flowing water.
His friends were left stunned by the sudden incident and immediately alerted local authorities. Upon receiving the information, teams from the SDRF, police, and local volunteers arrived at the scene and began a comprehensive search for the missing boy.
Authorities stated that rescue teams are searching along the riverbank and nearby areas, but the teenager has not yet been located. Efforts to recover the body are ongoing, and further information will be provided once the operation concludes.
There has been a concerning rise in drowning incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, with several fatal accidents reported in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu division.
