The Story Behind the Remake of Aari Aari by Bombay Rockers: From Denmark to Bollywood

Mumbai, March 21: Classic songs continue to hold a special place in people’s hearts. Users still listen to them with the same affection. Additionally, remixes of these songs are created, quickly setting trends. One such recent release is the song ‘Aari Aari’ from the film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge,’ which is currently trending on social media.

However, few are aware that this song has a rich history. We will explore the background of ‘Aari Aari’ and the intriguing story behind its re-recording for ‘Dhurandhar.’

Originally, this song was performed by the Indo-Danish pop band Bombay Rockers, which was formed in 2003. The band uniquely blended Punjabi folk music with Western pop and hip-hop. The main member, Navtej Singh Rahel, known as Naf, met producer Thomas Sardorf and Genus during college. They began jamming together and soon established the band Bombay Rockers.

Navtej Singh was initially studying engineering, but his passion for music was so profound that he decided to pursue it as a career. The band released their first album ‘Rock the Party,’ inspired by the Punjabi song ‘Mundian To Bach Ke Rahi,’ followed by ‘Aari Aari.’ In the 2000s, Bombay Rockers gained global popularity with these tracks, captivating audiences from clubs in Denmark to streets in India.

In 2026, the film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ featured a remixed version of this song. The track was voiced by Sudhir Yaduvanshi, Khan Saab, Jasmine Sandlas, and Bombay Rockers (Navtej Singh Rahel), while Shashwat Sachdev produced the new version. The lyrics were penned by Irshad Kamil and Bombay Rockers, with rap contributions from Rebel.

Recently, singer Sudhir Yaduvanshi shared that the first cut of the song was recorded in just 15 minutes. He posted a clip of a podcast on his Instagram, explaining, “At 5 PM, I received a call from the team to head to Aditya Dhar’s house immediately, as the song was set to be shot there. Work was ongoing at Aditya Dhar’s house, and we had already recorded a reference for the song. The initial lyrics were written by Irshad Kamil. After discussing the song, we shot the first cut in just 15 minutes.”

Bombay Rockers initiated a new era of indie pop, where the fusion of Punjabi lyrics and Western beats was immensely popular. However, as Bollywood music and major labels gained prominence, independent bands like Bombay Rockers gradually faded into the background. Nonetheless, director Aditya Dhar has revived Bombay Rockers with his film, bringing their team together to reimagine the famous song ‘Aari Aari’ in a fresh style.

With ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge,’ this song is making waves and setting trends once again.
