New Delhi, February 18: Across India, numerous temples dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati symbolize true faith and miracles. In some Shakti Peeth temples, merely visiting can fulfill one’s wishes, while in others, faith prevails over skepticism.

One such temple is the powerful Danteshwari Temple located in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Here, devotees can determine whether their wishes will be granted by holding onto a specific pillar. This practice is not superstition; it reflects the deep devotion of the worshippers.

The Danteshwari Temple, revered for its six-armed form of the goddess wielding weapons, a conch shell, and the hair and skull of demons, is a significant site for many. The temple’s pillar enhances the faith of the devotees. Local belief holds that if a devotee can embrace the pillar with both arms, their wish will surely be fulfilled. Conversely, if they are unable to do so, their request may remain unanswered. People travel from afar to witness this miracle.

This ancient temple has a long-standing tradition of worship, adhering to age-old practices. Visitors are required to wear traditional attire, such as a dhoti or lungi, to enter the sanctum. If someone arrives in regular clothing, the temple administration provides a dhoti to ensure they can comfortably pay their respects.

With over 400 years of history, the temple is steeped in legends and mythological tales. Constructed in the South Indian architectural style, it is said that a tooth of Goddess Sati fell here, leading to the temple’s name, Danteshwari, and the town’s name, Dantewada. The goddess is worshipped as the presiding deity of Dantewada and Bastar. Additionally, the temple is linked to the Kakatiya dynasty, with legends suggesting that King Annamadev of the Kakatiya lineage received blessings from the goddess, which led to his expansive reign. Nearby, footprints of the goddess can be found along the riverbank, and devotees often visit these footprints after paying homage to Goddess Danteshwari.
