Davanagere, February 8: Basavaraj V. Shivganga, a loyalist of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and MLA from Channagiri, stated that comments made by Yatindra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress MLC, regarding leadership issues should not be taken seriously. This statement may intensify internal conflicts within the Karnataka Congress.
The situation is likely to escalate tensions between the factions of Shivakumar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Yatindra Siddaramaiah had remarked that the party high command is not focused on attempts to change the Chief Minister and that his father will complete his full term. This comment was in response to Basavaraj’s statement, which called for intervention from the high command to resolve ongoing leadership disputes in the state.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Basavaraj emphasized that his statements should be taken seriously, as his vote matters in selecting the Chief Ministerial candidate, unlike Yatindra, who, as an MLC, does not have such a role.
He sarcastically questioned why the media pays attention to Yatindra’s statements when he lacks voting power.
Basavaraj accused Yatindra of repeatedly asserting that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will remain in office for five years.
He mentioned that the party high command has acknowledged Yatindra’s statements. Key figures like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi are involved in the party. The party needs to clarify whether there is any arrangement for power-sharing.
Tensions within the Karnataka Congress are escalating as factions vie for influence and clarity on leadership roles.
