Kolkata, 26 August (Kiran News). A new low-pressure area is beginning to form over the north-western part of the Bay of Bengal. South Bengal is expected to get some temporary relief from heavy rain for the next two days, but the weather is likely to deteriorate again by the weekend.
Cyclonic circulation has already become active over the coastal areas adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, which may turn into a low-pressure area within the next 48 hours. The main impact is expected in the coastal areas of Odisha, but some partial effect will also be felt in the coastal districts of Bengal. In view of the possible turbulence at sea, fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep waters on Tuesday and Wednesday.
At present, there is no threat of heavy rainfall in South Bengal. Rainfall will decrease from Tuesday onwards and the sky will remain partly cloudy. However, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, and Purulia districts. During this period, strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour may also blow. From Wednesday, the rainfall will reduce further, but there are signs that the situation may change and rain may intensify by the weekend.
While South Bengal will get a two-day respite, the spell of rain will continue in North Bengal. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in all districts from Tuesday to Thursday. There is no forecast for heavy rain, but isolated thunder showers are possible. From Friday onwards, scattered heavy rainfall is likely in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. Rainfall intensity will also increase in the remaining districts.
In Kolkata today, the maximum temperature will be around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum will be about 29 degrees Celsius. Humidity will be close to 70 percent, making the weather quite humid. The sky will remain mostly cloudy with the possibility of light rain in some areas throughout the day.
