Telangana Police Recovers ₹139 Crore for Cyber Fraud Victims

Hyderabad, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCBS) has made significant strides in assisting cyber fraud victims, having recovered ₹139.68 crore for 24,189 individuals. Director Shikha Goyal announced these figures during a national Lok Adalat held in Hyderabad on September 13, 2026.

In collaboration with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), banks, digital payment service providers, police commissionerates, and district police units, TGCBS successfully refunded ₹42.28 crore to 3,896 victims at the recent Lok Adalat.

The Cyberabad unit excelled in these efforts, returning ₹14.19 crore to 942 victims. TGCBS secured the second position with ₹10.55 crore refunded to 41 victims, while the Malkajgiri unit assisted 1,024 victims, recovering ₹5.27 crore. Additionally, Hyderabad Police returned ₹5.02 crore to 530 victims, and the Suryapet Police helped 34 victims reclaim ₹0.76 crore.

Beyond the Lok Adalat, TGCBS is actively utilizing the Money Restoration Module (MRM), launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2026, to recover funds for cyber crime victims. This module has been operational in Telangana since June and allows for refunds without court orders. As of September 12, MRM has facilitated the return of ₹27.23 crore to 9,355 victims. Goyal highlighted that these initiatives have provided financial relief to a total of 13,251 victims statewide this year.

Since its inception, TGCBS has aided in the recovery of ₹514.93 crore for 73,204 victims. The bureau remains committed to ensuring economic justice for victims of cyber crime. Goyal attributed these successes to prompt action on complaints, effective coordination with banks, judicial cooperation, and the efficient use of the Lok Adalat and MRM systems across police stations.

Citizens are advised to refrain from sharing OTPs, PINs, passwords, or banking information with unknown individuals. Verification of customer care numbers should be done through official websites only. It is crucial not to click on suspicious links received via SMS, email, WhatsApp, or social media, and personal or banking information should never be shared.

In case of cyber fraud, individuals are urged to call the 1930 cyber helpline or file a complaint at http://www.cybercrime.gov.in within the “golden hour.” Prompt reporting significantly increases the chances of freezing and recovering the defrauded amount.
