New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The joyous occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated across India with devotion and enthusiasm. On September 14, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi to offer prayers to Lord Ganesh, seeking blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the nation.
During the celebration, the Vice President emphasized that this festival symbolizes devotion, affection, and social unity. He prayed for knowledge, happiness, prosperity, and good health for all citizens.
In addition to his visit to Maharashtra Sadan, Radhakrishnan participated in the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities at the residence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, where he also received blessings from Ganapati Bappa.
Across the country, the Ganesh festival is in full swing, particularly in Maharashtra, where devotees are engaging in vibrant celebrations. Homes and public pandals are adorned with elaborate decorations, lights, devotional songs, and cultural programs. Devotees are offering flowers, sweets, and traditional offerings to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesh.
According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Ganesh is revered as the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and auspicious beginnings. His worship is customary before the commencement of any new venture. The festival, lasting ten days, will culminate in the immersion of Ganapati idols on September 25 during Anant Chaturdashi.
The public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi has a rich history, with varying claims about its origins. One belief credits freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak for initiating the public festival in 1893 in Girgaum, Mumbai, aiming to unite people and garner support for the independence movement. Meanwhile, the Bhau Saheb Rangari Ganapati Trust claims that the public celebration began in Pune in 1892.
In Mumbai, prominent pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, Ganesh Gully, Tejukaya Mandal, and GSB Seva Mandal are splendidly decorated with lights. Long queues of devotees have been seen at Lalbaugcha Raja, while the famous Siddhivinayak Temple has also been specially adorned for the occasion.
