Hyderabad, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : A group of women legislators from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has lodged complaints with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi. They allege that Telangana police mistreated them while attempting to enter the state assembly on September 11, 2026.
The legislators claim they were subjected to abusive and humiliating behavior by police officers. They argue that their rights as elected representatives were violated and are calling for a thorough investigation into the police’s conduct.
A delegation, including former ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, presented a memorandum to NHRC member Vijaya Bharti and NCW chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar. They detailed the alleged police actions at the assembly’s entrance.
Sabitha Indra Reddy reported that she was physically restrained, had her hair pulled, and that officers attempted to choke her. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy added that her sari was tugged, leading to significant humiliation.
The BRS legislators questioned how police could deny elected officials access to the assembly. They also noted that despite filing a complaint with the Telangana police, no action has been taken against the accused officers. Over 100 hours have passed since the incident, yet no FIR has been registered against those allegedly responsible for the misconduct.
Instead of addressing the issue, the police have reportedly filed cases against the BRS legislators. The delegation criticized the Telangana government for its silence on the alleged police excesses and for failing to hold anyone accountable.
The BRS has urged the NHRC and NCW to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation, preserve all CCTV footage from the assembly premises, identify those responsible, and take appropriate action. They also emphasized the need to protect the dignity and rights of women legislators.
The delegation included former minister G. Jagdish Reddy, Satyavati Rathore, MLC Surabhi Vani Devi, MLA Kova Lakshmi, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, and other BRS leaders.
