BJP Criticizes SPs 34-Year Political Journey, Citing Corruption and Controversies

Lucknow, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Pankaj Chaudhary, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Minister of State for Finance, launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) during a press conference in Lucknow. He questioned the party’s 34-year political journey, stating that it has been marked more by controversies than by development and good governance.

Chaudhary asserted that the SP, which began its political journey under the ideals of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, has faced numerous allegations of corruption, nepotism, and lawlessness during its three terms in power. He emphasized that the public is now aware of the SP’s political record.

During the conference held at the BJP state office, Chaudhary detailed various controversies linked to SP governments. He pointed out that while the party claimed to uphold Lohia’s principles, its tenure was overshadowed by scandals and mismanagement.

He referenced significant controversies from the SP’s past, including the Rampur Tiraha incident in 1994 and the Lucknow guest house incident in 1995. These events raised serious questions about the SP’s governance and its treatment of protesters demanding the formation of Uttarakhand.

Chaudhary also criticized the government led by Akhilesh Yadav after he took office in 2012. He accused the SP of concentrating power within the family, citing the uncontested election of Dimple Yadav and the numerous departments managed directly by the Chief Minister. Allegations of interference by SP workers in police and administrative matters were also highlighted.

He referred to the Yadav Singh case, which involved a CBI investigation into corruption, and raised concerns over the transparency of the Yash Bharti awards distributed between 2012 and 2017.

Chaudhary recalled the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, questioning the law and order situation under the SP government, which resulted in over 60 deaths and the displacement of more than 50,000 individuals. He also criticized the handling of the Saharanpur riots and the role of then-minister Azam Khan.

The BJP leader called into question the SP’s free laptop scheme and unemployment benefits, claiming that while 1.5 million laptops were ordered, only around 600,000 were distributed. He noted that Rs 20.58 crore was allocated for unemployment benefits, with Rs 15.06 crore spent on publicity.

Chaudhary touched on several issues, including the recruitment controversies within the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission and the treatment of journalists and critics during SP’s rule. He highlighted the lack of transparency in government recruitment processes, which he claimed denied opportunities to the youth.

He criticized the SP’s political alliances, citing attempts to ally with figures like Mukhtar Ansari and the family’s political dominance in elections. Chaudhary symbolically broke a pot labeled “SP’s sins,” calling for accountability regarding law and order, corruption, and nepotism.

Concluding his remarks, Chaudhary asserted that the BJP government is committed to good governance, the rule of law, and development. He urged the people of Uttar Pradesh to prioritize progress and transparency, demanding that the SP answer for its past actions.
