Chennai, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the secretary of the AIADMK party, is rallying voters in Tamil Nadu to defeat the ruling Tamilaga Vettir Katchi (TVK) in the upcoming by-elections for the Maduranthakam and Dharapuram assembly seats. He accused the TVK of poaching party members and betraying the trust of the electorate.
As the election campaign enters its final stretch, Palaniswami urged support for AIADMK candidates S. Kanitha Sampath from Maduranthakam and K. Bhanumathi from Dharapuram. He called on voters to cast their ballots for the party’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol, emphasizing the need to oust both TVK and the DMK.
Voting in both constituencies is scheduled for Tuesday, with the campaign period concluding on Sunday evening. The Dharapuram reserved seat will see a contest among five parties, including TVK, DMK, AIADMK, Naam Tamilar Katchi, and the Communist Party of India.
Palaniswami alleged that the TVK is using the by-elections to bolster its position after forming a government with support from other parties, following a failure to secure a majority in the assembly elections. He criticized the government for focusing on media promotions and social media engagement rather than addressing public needs since taking office.
He pointed out that these by-elections became necessary after AIADMK lawmakers resigned shortly after being elected and later contested as TVK candidates. Palaniswami claimed that these resignations were politically motivated and amounted to a betrayal of their constituents.
He further stated that these candidates have betrayed the legacy of AIADMK’s founder M.G. Ramachandran and former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Palaniswami expressed that discontent against them is evident in all constituencies, as reflected in media reports and online discussions.
Accusing the ruling party of making misleading promises to gain support, he urged voters to respond through their ballots. Reflecting on his campaign tours, Palaniswami noted the warm reception and support for AIADMK candidates, which has strengthened his confidence in their victory. He appealed to voters in both constituencies to reject betrayal and misuse of power, stating that the election outcome could serve as a warning against future defections.
In rallying his party leaders, Palaniswami reaffirmed AIADMK’s commitment to public service and called for a resounding victory for both candidates.
