Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Urges Citizens to Honor Ancestral Legacy During Pitru Paksha

Lucknow, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called on residents to view Pitru Paksha not just as a time for remembrance but as an opportunity to embody the values and sacrifices of their ancestors. He emphasized that expressing gratitude to one’s forebears is also a way to understand one’s responsibilities. It is our duty to pass down a rich heritage to future generations, which in turn revitalizes families, communities, and the nation.

In a message to the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister highlighted that the great Sanatan culture is not merely about recalling the past but about linking it to the present and future. Pitru Paksha serves as a manifestation of this enduring sentiment. The sacred period began on September 27 with the Ashwin Krishna Pratipada and will culminate on October 10 with Sarvapitra Amavasya. During this time, people remember their ancestors and express gratitude through Shradh rituals.

Adityanath pointed out that the act of offering Pind Daan serves as a reminder of the contributions made by ancestors through their hard work, sacrifices, and values. He stressed that gratitude towards ancestors fosters a sense of responsibility. It is our duty to preserve what previous generations have bestowed upon us and to ensure that future generations inherit an even richer legacy. This ethos of sustainable development strengthens families, connects society to its roots, and provides new energy to the state and nation.

The Chief Minister referenced a historical incident involving Shah Jahan, who, while imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb, wrote a letter expressing his longing for water. In this letter, he invoked the Sanatan tradition of offering water to departed ancestors, illustrating the deep-seated reverence for ancestors in our cultural practices.

He urged citizens to extend this heritage beyond mere remembrance and incorporate it into their daily lives. Respecting elders, introducing children to cultural values, and promoting the traditions of knowledge, service, and integrity will help connect generations and guide the future. The Chief Minister also noted that continuing the legacy of a healthy and secure life is a shared responsibility.

The state government is actively working towards a healthy and secure future for every family. As part of this initiative, a special campaign for controlling communicable diseases will run from October 1 to 31, 2025, alongside the ‘Dastak’ campaign from October 12 to 31, 2025.

Healthcare workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, along with other departmental staff, will visit homes to raise awareness about cleanliness, identify symptoms of diseases, and promote timely treatment. The eradication of encephalitis, once deemed a curse in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, demonstrates that collective efforts and public participation can achieve the seemingly impossible.

Adityanath urged residents to adopt cleanliness as part of their daily routine, prevent stagnant water accumulation, and take symptoms like fever seriously. He encouraged making the ‘Dastak’ campaign a health-awareness initiative in every household, asserting that a healthy family and society are essential for realizing the dream of a developed Uttar Pradesh.
