Modi and Putin Discuss Economic Cooperation and Trade Expansion at BRICS Summit

New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi was highly productive. The discussion focused on strengthening trade relations and the implementation of the India-Russia Economic Cooperation Program 2030.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting Putin again less than two weeks after their encounter in Bishkek. He noted that the two leaders discussed various areas of collaboration, including infrastructure, energy, technology, defense, and culture, as well as efforts to promote global welfare during India’s BRICS presidency.

Modi highlighted the growing momentum in the India-Russia economic partnership. He mentioned their visit to the Innoprom India exhibition, where numerous companies from both nations participated, showcasing the deepening business ties between India and Russia.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, defense, energy, space, skill mobility, and people-to-people contact.

The MEA also reported that both leaders welcomed the inaugural Innoprom India, an international industrial exhibition held in India from September 9 to 11, calling it a significant step toward expanding trade and industrial collaboration. They toured the exhibition and engaged with participants.

During their meeting, Modi and Putin also discussed multilateral cooperation under India’s BRICS presidency for 2026. They addressed several regional and global issues, including conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region, which impact maritime trade and the safety of Indian sailors.

Modi reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for resolving conflicts and expressed India’s readiness to support peace efforts. Both leaders agreed to maintain continuous communication to strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia, emphasizing that their collaboration remains robust and resilient despite geopolitical uncertainties.
