Telangana Leader Accuses Government of Mortgaging Land to World Bank

Hyderabad, March 16: K. Kavitha, a leader of Telangana Jagruthi, accused the state government on Sunday of attempting to mortgage land along the Musi River to the World Bank. She claimed this move is being made under the guise of the Musi Riverfront Development Project.

In a media interaction, Kavitha urged the government to clarify how this project would benefit the general public. She pointed out that a detailed project report (DPR) for the initiative has not yet been prepared, suggesting that the government may be hiding something.

Kavitha also announced her intention to file a defamation case against A.V. Ranganath, the commissioner of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). She alleged that Ranganath has attempted to tarnish her reputation by making false accusations against her.

Previously, Ranganath had written a letter claiming that Aditya Constructions was encroaching on the land. When Kavitha protested against this issue, she felt that there was an attempt to discredit her.

She warned that if the videos posted against her are not removed by this evening, she will approach the court. Kavitha stated that officials had indicated that all structures within 30 meters of the Musi River would be demolished. However, she recently protested against a private property being constructed directly in the river.

Kavitha alleged that she has submitted six complaints with evidence to the authorities, but no action has been taken. She remarked, “It seems that only the homes of the poor are being demolished, while no action is taken against the properties of the wealthy.”

She emphasized that the Musi River rejuvenation plan should genuinely benefit the public. Kavitha recalled that during the previous government, construction was not permitted in the river, questioning why such permissions are now being granted.

She asked, “What corruption or deal is behind these permissions?” Kavitha accused the Congress government of creating numerous problems for the public since coming to power.

Regarding the demolition of poor homes in the Velugumatla area of Khammam district, she announced that her party will form a fact-finding committee on March 17. Kavitha stated that their movement will continue until justice and relief are provided to the victims.
