Telangana Government to Combat Misinformation on Social Media

Hyderabad, March 9: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced plans for a new law aimed at regulating social media to curb misinformation. Speaking at an International Women’s Day event, he emphasized the need for a platform to report false news circulating on social media.

The Chief Minister stated that this issue will be discussed in the upcoming assembly session. He pointed out that while there are mechanisms to address complaints against electronic media, no such system exists for social media.

Reddy highlighted the importance of distinguishing between genuine journalists and those misusing the profession for personal gain. He stressed the necessity of preventing disgruntled elements from exploiting the media landscape.

During the event, several female journalists were honored for their contributions. Reddy also recalled the significant role of newspapers and journalists during the freedom struggle, mentioning figures like Mahatma Gandhi, who launched the magazine ‘Young India,’ and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who initiated ‘National Herald.’

He concluded by stating that these personalities demonstrated that wars could be won through the power of the press.
