Telangana Government Suspends Revenue Officer for Insensitive Remarks to Farmer

Hyderabad, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Telangana government has taken decisive action by suspending a local revenue officer in Siddipet district. This follows allegations that the officer made derogatory remarks to a farmer who approached him regarding a land dispute.

The suspension order for Chittampally Swamy, the Tehsildar of Gajwel, came after a video of his comments went viral on social media. Siddipet District Collector K. Hemavathi issued the suspension based on an initial investigation report from the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). Swamy has also been instructed not to leave his headquarters without prior approval.

In the video, the Tehsildar was seen questioning the farmer, Yesu, who had come to discuss his land-related issues, by asking, “Are you still alive? Haven’t you consumed any pesticides yet?” This insensitive remark sparked outrage among the public. Following demands from farmers for action against the officer, the District Collector requested the RDO to conduct a thorough investigation. The RDO’s preliminary report deemed the officer’s behavior inappropriate, leading to the suspension.

Yesu, a farmer from Makta Masanapalli village in Gajwel, expressed his concerns about the land acquisition compensation related to the Regional Ring Road (RRR). He stated that he had visited the Tehsildar’s office with village elders, including the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch, to resolve the issue. After the compensation was credited to his bank account, the land matter was eventually settled.

In a related development, another video surfaced in which Yesu mentioned that this incident occurred 5-6 months ago, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by farmers in the region.
