Hyderabad, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Election Commission of India has announced a three-week extension for filing claims and objections in the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process in Telangana. This decision was made public on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Under the revised schedule, the deadline for submitting claims and objections has been pushed to October 7, 2026. This extension follows the original timeline, which began on August 17 and was initially set to conclude on September 16.
The notice phase for addressing claims and objections will now wrap up on November 5, an extension from the previously scheduled October 15. The final voter list is expected to be published on November 9, instead of the earlier date of October 19.
In conjunction with this announcement, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudhakar Reddy held a video conference on Monday with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and District Election Officer of Hyderabad, along with all District Election Officers (DEOs) and Election Registration Officers (EROs). The meeting focused on the ongoing SIR process.
During the conference, the CEO emphasized the importance of proper notice distribution and hearing operations under SIR-2026. He instructed DEOs and EROs to ensure that each notice is delivered personally to the relevant voter by the Booth Level Officer (BLO). BLOs are advised to seek assistance from Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to locate voters’ addresses, particularly in urban areas.
Officials were reminded to utilize the additional logins provided for districts and to ensure timely resolution of pending cases. DEOs and EROs were also directed to share lists of un-mapping and irregularities with political parties during their meetings, encouraging BLAs to actively participate during the claims and objections period.
According to ECI guidelines, BLOs, BLO supervisors, and Assistant EROs (AEROs) must ensure that documents are uploaded correctly. The CEO stressed that computer operators should avoid errors, as EROs and AEROs will be held accountable for any mistakes made under their supervision.
Supervisors were instructed to visit the homes of senior citizens and persons with disabilities who may not have access to designated hearing venues. Additionally, officials were asked to activate or establish help desks at the ERO and DEO levels to assist voters.
The CEO also reviewed the progress made regarding notice issuance, hearing schedules, and the resolution of pending cases in ERO and DEO logins with DEOs across all districts.
