Kyiv, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Renewed violence erupted in Ukraine just hours after American peace envoys departed, highlighting the fragile nature of the recent ceasefire. The agreement, which was supposed to last three days, collapsed almost immediately as Russia launched extensive attacks on Kyiv and other regions on Monday night. Reports indicate that at least two people were killed and ten others injured in these assaults.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that efforts to address the aftermath of the Russian strikes were underway in Kyiv and surrounding areas. He described the attacks as deliberate and devastating, aimed at inflicting maximum damage. The Russian military employed ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones in their offensive.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry took to social media platform X to condemn Russia’s aggressive actions. They noted that the large-scale bombardment of Kyiv and other areas occurred mere hours after the departure of the American peace envoys. The strikes caused significant damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in the capital.
The ministry reported that critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region was targeted, while a market in Odesa was also struck. In Kharkiv, two individuals sustained injuries when an apartment building was damaged. Additionally, a railway station in the Sumy region was attacked on Tuesday morning. Other assaults occurred in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro as well.
Despite the Ukrainian defense forces successfully intercepting 175 aerial targets overnight, the ministry acknowledged that not all threats could be neutralized, particularly ballistic missiles, which remain challenging to defend against. Ukraine continues to emphasize the urgent need for more interceptor missiles from its American and European allies. Meetings are scheduled with countries and companies that can assist in bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and supporting its “Freyja” anti-ballistic system. Every air defense system provided can help save lives amid ongoing hostilities.
