
Hyderabad, June 16: Telangana’s Director General of Police, C.V. Anand, conducted a review on Tuesday regarding measures to prevent waterlogging, urban flooding, and traffic disruptions during the monsoon season.
During a meeting with officials from various departments, he emphasized the need for proactive measures to avoid traffic jams in sensitive areas and ensure smooth vehicle movement. He also highlighted the importance of identifying alternative traffic routes and timely communication with the public when necessary.
The DGP instructed police personnel to maintain constant surveillance in low-lying areas, flood-prone regions, major traffic intersections, and other critical locations throughout the city.
He further directed that the emergency response mechanism be fully operational to enable police teams to respond promptly to any unforeseen situations arising from heavy rainfall.
The meeting, held in Malakpet, was chaired by government advisor for irrigation, Sudarshan Reddy, and included DGP Anand, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner Srijana, Hyderabad Disaster Management and Property Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner Ranganath, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh Reddy, along with senior officials and engineers from irrigation, GHMC, police, and other relevant departments.
DGP Anand stressed that the police department is maintaining a high level of preparedness to ensure that citizens do not face any inconvenience due to heavy rains and flooding.
During the review, officials reported that special engineering teams have been formed to inspect areas such as Malakam Cheruvu, Khajaguda Lake, Mandikunta, Gurunath Cheruvu, lakes in the Miyapur area, and regions around Biodiversity Junction, Kondapur, and other flood-prone locations. These teams will conduct a detailed assessment of water flow channels, encroachments, drainage systems, and other factors contributing to waterlogging and flooding.
The teams are tasked with conducting comprehensive ground inspections and presenting reports recommending immediate remedial actions and long-term sustainable solutions to mitigate recurring waterlogging issues.
Anand emphasized that effective flood management and public safety require close coordination among the police, irrigation department, GHMC, HYDRAA, and other agencies. He called on all agencies to work collaboratively, identify problem areas in advance, and implement corrective measures without delay.
He warned officials against any negligence or indifference, reiterating that public safety should be the top priority during the monsoon season. The DGP instructed all police units across the state to remain vigilant and fully prepared until the end of the rainy season and to provide every possible assistance to the public when needed.
