Patna, August 21: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has launched a sharp attack on the NDA government regarding the state’s financial situation. He claimed on the social media platform X that Bihar’s fiscal condition has become dire and alarming. The state is burdened with heavy debt, with public debt increasing more than fourfold.
Yadav accused the government of pushing Bihar towards a severe economic crisis. He stated that the financial state has deteriorated to the point where timely payments for government employees, pensioners, social security pensions, contractors’ dues, and development projects are not being met.
He also alleged that the amount for student credit cards has been reduced and scholarships are being phased out.
The opposition leader questioned Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and the NDA government’s economic policies, asserting that there is no clear understanding or long-term plan for managing expenditures, debt, and fiscal deficits.
Tejashwi noted on X that the state’s revenue deficit is rising, and debt is increasing at an even faster rate.
He claimed that in the financial year 2025-26, Bihar recorded the highest fiscal deficit among major states in the country, amounting to 5.8 percent of its GSDP.
He expressed concern that the combination of high fiscal deficits and heavy debt is a serious issue for the state. He accused the government of failing to balance its revenue generation and expenditure.
Tejashwi pointed out that the government lacks a solid long-term plan to enhance revenue generation, improve budget management, and control fiscal deficits. He criticized the NDA government for accumulating record debt over the past two years while the state treasury remains empty, questioning where Bihar’s money is going.
Additionally, Tejashwi accused the government of corruption and alleged organized looting. He emphasized that Bihar’s financial crisis is a collective concern for every citizen in the state. However, there has been no immediate response from the government regarding these allegations.
