Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Bihar Government for Failing Womens Safety

Patna, May 19: Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly and the national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accused Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s government of failing to ensure the safety of women. During a press conference on Tuesday, he highlighted the alarming rise in crimes against women under the current administration.

Yadav stated that criminals, protected by those in power, are wreaking havoc on the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the state. He noted that incidents of violence against women have surged since the new government took office. Citing various incidents, he criticized Chief Minister Chaudhary, emphasizing that despite the Home Department being under his control, criminals operate without fear.

He claimed that women’s safety has become the biggest challenge in Bihar, with the government merely making empty promises. Yadav pointed out that it has only been a month since the new government was formed, yet there has been a notable increase in crimes against women. He also remarked on the frequent changes in leadership, mentioning that Bihar has seen two chief ministers in just six months, with the elected leader replaced by a ‘selective chief minister.’

Questioning the government’s claims of women’s empowerment, he revealed that approximately 65% of women in the state still struggle with issues like anemia. He stressed that the reality is that women feel increasingly unsafe.

Yadav also raised concerns about the selective nature of police encounters in Bihar, suggesting that these actions are influenced by caste. He sarcastically noted that the government seems to consider the caste of both the rape victim and the accused.

He demanded accountability regarding the encounter of the accused in the Balika Grih case, and criticized the BJP-JDU for distributing money to women during elections, promising further financial assistance that has yet to materialize. He warned that if the government fails to provide the promised funds, women will take action against it.
