Tehseen Poonawalla Calls Ethanol Policy a Scam, Demands CBI Investigation

New Delhi, August 22: Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla has labeled the ethanol policy a ‘scam,’ claiming it is driving up sugar prices. He stated that a complaint has been filed with the CBI regarding this issue.

In a recent conversation, Poonawalla said, “The ‘Team India’ has just lodged a complaint with the CBI, demanding an investigation into the sugar scam; this is our request. The sugar scam is one of the largest in the country, and the ethanol scam is growing under its cover.”

He further explained, “An ethanol policy is being formulated. One minister claims that when the ethanol content in petrol increases, petrol will cost you ₹15 per liter. Ethanol distilleries and sugar mills are run by politicians and their families. The E-20 ethanol policy is being implemented prematurely, despite the lack of necessary infrastructure. Public sector banks are lending millions of crores to sugar mills and ethanol distilleries. Sugar and cane are being diverted to ethanol mills to increase ethanol production.”

Poonawalla added that ethanol-20 is being forcibly introduced to create a market, even though our vehicles run on ethanol-10. The diversion of cane to ethanol has led to a shortage of cane. India, which used to earn money by exporting sugar, now has to import it. This directly impacts the common people, especially during the festive season when they face increased sugar prices, while vehicles are struggling with E-20.

He emphasized that this entire policy seems designed to benefit a few politicians’ families. The leaders are gaining from it, while the country and its citizens are suffering. Therefore, we are urging the CBI to investigate the sugar scam. Additionally, we demand a thorough investigation into the corruption occurring under this policy, with strict action against the guilty. If the CBI does not register this complaint or file an FIR, we will approach the court.
