New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Team India will wear its official jersey for the T20 International match against Japan on Tuesday, September 19. This match commemorates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Sources indicate that under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team will not wear the Asian Games kit but instead sport the jersey of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The match is scheduled to take place at Sano International Cricket Ground, just two days before the men’s cricket competition begins at the Asian Games, where India, Japan, and eight other teams will compete. The kits for the Asian Games will differ, as seen with the Indian women’s team.
This match marks the first international cricket encounter between the two nations and serves as a special event to kick off celebrations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties. It is a key highlight of the “Sport 75” initiative, a bilateral effort stemming from an agreement made during a summit between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The goal is to enhance exchange and cooperation in the field of sports.
BCCI Secretary Devjeet Sekhia remarked on the significance of this historic match, stating, “BCCI is delighted to be part of this momentous occasion as the men’s teams from India and Japan come together for a special T20 International match. This is a pivotal moment for cricket, allowing the Indian team to reach a new audience and promote the sport in Japan and East Asia.”
