Tawanda Mukuhlani Appointed ICC Deputy Chairman, Receives Congratulations from Jay Shah

Dubai, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Tawanda Mukuhlani has been appointed as the new Deputy Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a role he will hold until November 2027. Currently serving as the Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, Mukuhlani will take over this position following the departure of Imran Khwaja. He is also a member of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) Committee and the Nomination Committee, and he leads the ICC’s Human Resources and Remuneration Committee. This appointment makes him the first Zimbabwean to achieve such a prominent role within the ICC.

His selection comes at a crucial time for African cricket, as Zimbabwe prepares to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 alongside South Africa and Namibia. With his leadership experience in Zimbabwe Cricket and regional insights, Mukuhlani is expected to provide significant guidance as the ICC brings this major tournament back to Africa for the first time in 24 years.

Expressing his gratitude, Mukuhlani stated, “I feel honored by the trust my fellow ICC board directors have placed in me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chairman. I look forward to working with our Chairman Jay Shah, whose leadership, energy, and ambition have given the ICC a clear purpose focused on promoting cricket, creating opportunities for our members, and reaching new audiences and markets.”

He added, “Cricket is entering an exciting phase, especially with its return to the Olympic Games and ongoing global expansion. I am eager to support our Chairman Jay Shah and fellow board directors in advancing our shared priorities and serving the best interests of cricket worldwide.”

ICC Chairman Jay Shah congratulated Mukuhlani on his election, stating, “I wholeheartedly congratulate Tawanda Mukuhlani on being elected as the ICC Deputy Chairman. His experience in cricket administration, understanding of global sports, and commitment to its development will be invaluable to the ICC board.”

Shah further emphasized, “Tawanda has earned the trust of his fellow directors. I look forward to working together to strengthen cricket in our member countries and create more opportunities for the sport’s growth worldwide. His election is a significant milestone for Zimbabwe, as he becomes the first Zimbabwean to hold the Deputy Chairman position. Strong leadership will be essential as cricket expands globally and returns to the Olympic Games. I wish Tawanda all the best in his new role.”
