High Alert in Patna Ahead of Protest at Election Commission Office
Security tightened in Patna as protesters plan to march to the Election Commission office, raising concerns over electoral integrity.

Patna, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Security measures have been heightened across Patna as activists from the CPI(M), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), and Students Federation of India (SFI) prepare to demonstrate at the state election commission office. Key sites, including R-Block, GPO Roundabout, and the Chief Minister‘s residence, have seen an increased police presence to maintain order.
Protesters intended to march from GPO Roundabout to the election commission office to voice their demands. However, police intercepted them at R-Block, erecting barricades to prevent their advance. Water cannon vehicles have also been deployed at the scene to manage any potential unrest.
This protest comes amid ongoing opposition from various parties and organizations regarding issues related to the electoral process and voter lists. Opposition leaders have accused the election commission of “vote theft” and have questioned the role of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They have called for his resignation and demanded the reinstatement of names removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar, West Bengal, and other states and union territories.
CPI(M) and affiliated youth and student organizations are protesting alleged irregularities by attempting to march to the election commission office. Protesters waved flags and carried placards with slogans against the election commission and the central government, expressing their dissent against police actions taken against student groups in Delhi.
After police intervention at R-Block, the future strategy of the protesters remains unclear. There have been no confirmed reports of arrests, clashes, or traffic disruptions at this time.
