Chennai, March 29: As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will unveil the much-anticipated manifesto of the DMK today. This release signals a significant shift in the party’s campaign strategy ahead of the polls.
The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are the main contenders in what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
Additionally, parties like the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and actor Vijay’s Tamilga Vetrik Katcham (TVK) are also contesting independently, adding complexity to the electoral landscape.
The seat-sharing arrangement within the DMK-led alliance reflects a broad coalition of various parties. The Congress will contest 28 seats, while the MDMK has been allocated four. Other allied parties include the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (two seats), Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (two seats), Indian Union Muslim League (two seats), CPI (five seats), CPI (M) (five seats), VCK (eight seats), and DMDK (ten seats).
Before the manifesto release, CM Stalin revealed the list of 164 candidates for the DMK, marking a crucial initial step for the ruling party.
The manifesto is expected to include various welfare measures aimed at voters and promises related to development, playing a decisive role in shaping public opinion during the campaign.
On the other hand, the AIADMK, led by former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has already made several populist promises. These include free rice for ration card holders, financial assistance of ₹10,000 per family, and three free LPG cylinders annually.
As the election campaign intensifies, both major alliances are expected to ramp up their outreach efforts across the state, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
Voting will take place in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The nomination process for the 234-member assembly will begin on March 30 and continue until April 6, marking an important phase in the electoral process.
