New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Sydney Sixers have announced the signing of England international Alice Capssey from the Melbourne Renegades for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 12. Capssey expressed her excitement about joining the Sixers, stating, “I am thrilled to be part of the Sydney Sixers this season. WBBL is one of the best competitions in the world, and representing a club with such a strong reputation and history is truly special. I enjoyed my previous experience playing in Australia and can’t wait to return and be a part of the Sixers.”
As a batting all-rounder, Capssey recently showcased her skills by taking on wicketkeeping duties during the One Day series against Ireland. Known for her impressive batting and off-spin bowling, Capssey’s experience in wicketkeeping adds depth to the Sixers, especially with Amy Jones taking a break. This marks the first time since junior cricket that Capssey has donned the wicketkeeping gloves.
With Emma Manix-Geeves not re-signing with the club, the Sixers currently lack a designated wicketkeeper. Coach Peter Clarke welcomed Capssey, highlighting her potential importance to the team’s combination. He remarked, “Having that option is beneficial, especially if our main wicketkeeper gets injured or if we decide to experiment with our team lineup. The more versatile a player is, the more combinations you can try as a coaching staff. She’s also a good fielder and, of course, a strong batsman.”
Clarke believes that Capssey can prove to be a fantastic player at her best. “We are excited to work with her at the Sixers. Hopefully, we can create an environment where she can consistently perform at her best and contribute to the club’s success.” Capssey will play alongside teammates Sophia Dunkley, Ellyse Perry, and Amelia Kerr. She spent the last two seasons with the Melbourne Renegades and played for city rivals Melbourne Stars during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 Australian leagues.
