Gonda, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : In Gonda, a suspect involved in the robbery of a liquor salesman was injured in a police shootout early Monday morning. The suspect, identified as Yash Pratap Singh, was apprehended following an exchange of gunfire with police.
According to reports, a joint team from the Nagar Kotwali police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) attempted to surround Singh near Lalpur Khalsa Tiraaha. During the operation, Singh allegedly opened fire on the officers, prompting a return of fire that resulted in a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was subsequently arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The robbery incident occurred on September 4, when Singh and accomplices attacked salesman Ankit Gupta near the Rudrapur Composite liquor store on the Gonda-Lucknow highway. The robbers reportedly assaulted Gupta and made off with approximately ₹70,000. Following the incident, police registered a case and began searching for the suspects, with Singh being on the run.
Around 3 a.m. on Monday, police received a tip-off regarding Singh’s presence near Lalpur Khalsa Tiraaha. Upon arriving at the scene, the police team attempted to encircle him. Claiming to be cornered, Singh allegedly fired at the police, which led to the injury that resulted in his arrest.
From Singh’s possession, police recovered ₹19,500 of the stolen money, along with a firearm, ammunition, and an unregistered motorcycle. Investigators are linking the recovered items to the robbery case from September 4.
A video surfaced following the shootout, showing Singh lying on the ground after being shot, while officers were seen assisting him and searching his pockets, where the cash was discovered. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.
City Circle Officer Yogendra Singh confirmed that Singh has been arrested in connection with the robbery. He stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and teams have been deployed to locate other suspects involved in the crime.
