Adilabad, April 27: The mystery surrounding the body of a woman found in a drain in Adilabad district, Telangana, has been solved by local police. Within 48 hours, the One Town police identified and arrested the suspect.
District SP Akhil Mahajan spoke to the media, revealing that the body was discovered near a Haldiram shop at Punjab Chowk around midnight on April 24. A complaint was filed by Jangamwar Santosh regarding the death of his sister, Jangamwar Anita. Due to visible injuries on the body, a suspicious case was registered, and an investigation commenced.
Special teams were formed under the supervision of the DSP, CCS Inspector, and One Town SHO. They analyzed CCTV footage and technical evidence from the surrounding areas. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as 25-year-old Narsinga Santoba Gampalwad, a resident of Maharashtra.
It was revealed that on the day of the incident, the suspect had been drinking near Punjab Chowk and was resting at the scene when he noticed a woman sleeping while collecting garbage by the roadside. He attempted to take her to a secluded drain to assault her. When the victim resisted, he strangled her to death and disposed of her body in the nearby drain to destroy evidence. The suspect was apprehended within 48 hours of the case being registered.
SP Mahajan stated that the One Town police arrested the suspect near Adilabad railway station on Monday. He was later presented in court and remanded into custody.
The SP emphasized that police would take immediate action against criminals and urged the public to remain vigilant. He highlighted the importance of CCTV cameras and encouraged everyone to install them. The SP also congratulated the staff who played a crucial role in solving the murder case, awarding them certificates and cash prizes.
