New Delhi, August 16: Delhi police have apprehended two suspects in the Lal Bagh murder case following a 550-kilometer interstate search. One of the suspects is also wanted in another murder case.
During a routine check before Independence Day celebrations, the Rohini District Special Task Force (STF) arrested a suspect named Sarwar Ali, recovering an illegal weapon from his possession. A case has been registered against him under the Arms Act.
During interrogation, police discovered that Sarwar Ali was wanted for the murder of his wife, committed on June 6, and had been on the run for nearly three months. Reports indicate that he has multiple cases registered against him.
Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh stated, “We have solved a murder case. He killed his wife in public. The incident occurred on the night of June 6 while he was on the run. This happened in the Bhalswa Dairy police station area of Outer North District.”
He added that despite initial searches across various potential hideouts in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, success was elusive until the Rohini District team made the breakthrough.
During a press conference, he mentioned, “The Special Task Force in Rohini District captured the suspect Sarwar Ali based on intelligence. He fatally stabbed his wife and struck her with stones on June 7 in the Bhalswa Dairy police station area. He kept fleeing, and we conducted raids in several locations, including Ghaziabad. He had been on the run since June 7, and a reward had been announced for his capture.”
Sarwar Ali is facing 11 charges, including theft and violations of the Arms Act. He reportedly engaged in minor work while hiding. He claimed that suspicions about his wife led to his actions, which stemmed from family troubles and financial stress. He has a 13-year-old son and two daughters aged approximately eight and four.
DCP Rohini Shashank Jaiswal stated, “We arrested him under the Arms Act. Due to the upcoming Independence Day, we conducted checks on August 14, during which we set a trap and apprehended him. Following his arrest, it was revealed that he is a wanted criminal with prior cases of robbery and theft. He also committed theft to support his drug addiction.”
