Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah Set for Upcoming Visit to India

Nepals PM Balendra Shah may visit India soon, following discussions with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah is expected to visit New Delhi at the end of this month, as confirmed by officials from the Prime Minister’s office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His trip will follow an important visit by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Nepal.

India and Nepal jointly announced that Misri will be in Kathmandu on November 4 and 5. During his two-day visit, he will engage in bilateral talks with Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.

The Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that both sides will review all aspects of Nepal-India relations and exchange views on mutual interests. This aims to further strengthen the long-standing close and friendly ties between the two nations.

Additionally, Misri is scheduled to meet with senior Nepalese leaders and dignitaries. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs indicated that discussions will cover bilateral, regional, and global issues.

“India and Nepal share strong and friendly relations, with significant progress in various areas of cooperation. This visit will advance the tradition of regular high-level dialogue and help strengthen our comprehensive bilateral partnership,” the ministry noted.

Sources suggest that the agenda for Shah’s proposed visit to New Delhi will also be discussed during Misri’s trip. Nepal is hopeful that Shah’s visit will yield concrete outcomes, particularly in areas where it seeks India’s assistance. Following devastating floods in August, Nepal may request a significant aid package from India.

Furthermore, Nepal aims to address border disputes, amend trade treaties, and seek additional air entry points for international flights through India.

Officials indicate that several collaborative projects may be inaugurated during Prime Minister Shah’s anticipated visit to India. Initially, New Delhi planned to send Misri to Kathmandu in the second week of May to engage with Shah’s newly formed government, but that trip was postponed due to protocol-related issues. Misri’s upcoming visit is now seen as crucial for setting the stage for the next phase of discussions in India-Nepal relations and Shah’s potential visit.
