Irish Cricketer Rebecca Stokell Accepts Voluntary Suspension Amid Anti-Doping Violation

Irelands Rebecca Stokell accepts a voluntary suspension after acknowledging an anti-doping rule violation linked to medication use.

Dublin, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Rebecca Stokell, a batswoman for the Ireland women’s cricket team, has accepted a voluntary suspension following an anti-doping rule violation related to medication use. The incident came to light after a sample taken during a competition on June 23 revealed the presence of a specified substance.

Stokell has taken responsibility for inadvertently breaching the reporting requirements associated with the medication. While she emphasizes that the substance does not enhance performance, she acknowledges her mistake in failing to adhere to the regulations. She is currently awaiting the outcome of an investigation by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The suspension took effect on October 23, 2026, and Stokell has stated that she understands the possibility of facing further sanctions. In a statement, she expressed her acceptance of the situation, saying, “I fully acknowledge my mistake and accepted the voluntary suspension before the investigation results are released.”

Cricket Ireland has expressed its support for Stokell while also highlighting the importance of adhering to anti-doping guidelines. Gream West, the High-Performance Director at Cricket Ireland, remarked, “This incident serves as a reminder for all our international players that anti-doping rules are in place to protect the sport and the players themselves. We will continue to educate our athletes about the significance of these regulations.”

Stokell, who has played 29 One Day Internationals and 80 T20 matches, remains hopeful for a swift return to the field. She stated, “I hope to be back playing for Ireland as soon as possible.”
