New Delhi, May 10: The Supreme Court of India has strongly condemned the circulation of false statements attributed to Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on social media. The court described this act as malicious, mischievous, and an attack on public trust in the judiciary.
In a press release, the Chief Justice’s office stated that several posts currently circulating on social media contain fabricated statements falsely attributed to the Chief Justice.
The release highlighted a specific account on X (formerly Twitter) named @UnreservedMerit, which disseminated a fabricated graphic incorrectly linking a statement to the Chief Justice.
The misquoted statement claimed, “If a society wants to remain oppressed even while having IAS, IPS, CJI, President, or PM, the fault lies not with the Brahmins but with its own mindset.”
The Chief Justice’s office clarified that these allegations are entirely baseless, malicious, and clearly false.
The press release further stated that the office of the Chief Justice of India vehemently denounces this despicable, shameless, and malicious conspiracy.
It added that fabricating quotes and associating them with the highest judicial office in the country is an act of gross dishonesty, deliberate social provocation, and contempt for constitutional values.
The statement emphasized that such behavior undermines public trust in the justice system. The Chief Justice’s office remarked, “This irresponsible conduct strikes at the very foundation of public confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law.”
The Chief Justice’s office called for restraint, urging citizens, media organizations, and social media platforms to refrain from promoting unverified and misleading content.
The release concluded with a plea: “The office of the Chief Justice of India calls upon all responsible citizens, media organizations, and social media platforms to avoid promoting false and fabricated content.”
