New Delhi, March 20: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to kick off on March 28. After losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in last season’s final, Punjab Kings are determined to secure their first title this year. Sunyash Shedge, who plays for Punjab Kings and has experience in domestic cricket from Mumbai, shared insights about his preparations, mindset, and the team’s atmosphere and goals ahead of the season.
Shedge stated, “In the past month, I have played three to four Test matches and have consistently worked on my white-ball cricket. Balancing all three formats is crucial in modern cricket. It’s a process, and I trust in that. As for the IPL, my preparations began right after last year’s tournament ended.”
Reflecting on his performance, Shedge mentioned, “I hold high expectations for myself. I believe I could have performed better in the opportunities I received. However, I now accept my weaknesses and focus on improving them. Recognizing where to improve is the starting point of growth.”
Regarding pressure in high-stakes matches, he emphasized the importance of controlling emotions. “In the early stages of my career, I was quite emotional. Over time, I learned that if emotions are unstable, performance will be affected. Now, I maintain mental balance and make decisions based on the situation.”
Recalling last season’s final, Shedge noted that while the team did not win the title, the experience taught valuable lessons. “I dislike losing, but that final made us stronger as a team and as individuals. It’s essential to view losses not as failures but as learning opportunities to move forward.”
On the coaching staff and team environment, Shedge remarked that coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer have been working together since their time at Delhi Capitals, which has fostered a positive relationship that benefits the team. The camp atmosphere is also very encouraging. When players reunite after a long time, such camps help them reconnect and build synergy. A positive internal environment translates to better on-field performance. The presence of Arshdeep Singh keeps the atmosphere light.
During the IPL, Shedge had the chance to meet his idol, Virat Kohli. Remembering that moment, he said, “When I first shook hands with him, I got goosebumps because I have admired him since childhood. Sharing the field with him felt like a dream come true.”
Looking back at last season’s performance, Shedge acknowledged that while the team played well, they did not achieve their goals. “Sometimes, despite everything going right, the results may not favor you. However, I see this as an opportunity to learn rather than a disappointment.”
Shedge concluded by stating that Punjab Kings’ clear objective is to win the IPL 2026 title, and he aims to make significant contributions in batting, bowling, and fielding throughout the campaign.
