Mumbai, May 21: Bollywood director Sujoy Ghosh has made a significant mark in the film industry with his unique blend of suspense and thrill. Interestingly, Ghosh’s journey to filmmaking did not start in the cinema world. He previously held a high-ranking position at a major media company, but his passion for films was so profound that he decided to leave his job and pursue a career in direction. Today, Sujoy Ghosh is regarded as one of the most innovative directors in Bollywood.

Born on May 21, 1966, in Kolkata, Ghosh moved to London at the age of 13, where he completed his education. He later earned degrees in engineering and an MBA from Manchester University. After finishing his studies, he began working at a media company, eventually becoming the head of the South Asia media division. At that time, his job was considered quite prestigious.

However, Ghosh’s heart always belonged to the world of films and storytelling. He had a passion for cinema and storytelling from a young age. This love for the art led him to make the bold decision to leave his successful job in 1999. Although it was a challenging choice, he opted to follow his dreams. After resigning, he focused entirely on filmmaking and writing.

In 2003, Sujoy Ghosh made his directorial debut in Bollywood with the film “Jhankar Beats,” a tribute to the legendary composer R.D. Burman. The film’s music and storyline resonated with audiences, earning Ghosh recognition as a director with a fresh perspective, even though it was not a commercial hit.

He later directed films like “Home Delivery” and “Aladin,” but these did not achieve the expected success at the box office.

In 2012, Ghosh directed “Kahaani,” a film that changed his fate. Starring Vidya Balan, this suspense thriller captivated audiences with the story of a pregnant woman navigating the streets of Kolkata. The film’s plot, direction, and suspense received widespread acclaim, earning several prestigious awards, including a National Award. Following “Kahaani,” Ghosh became known as a master of suspense and thriller films in Bollywood.

He continued to work on projects like “Kahaani 2,” “Badla,” “Typewriter,” and “Jaan-e-Jaan.” The film “Badla,” featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, was particularly well-received by audiences. Additionally, his short film “Ahalya” garnered significant attention.

Few know that Sujoy Ghosh also penned the famous slogan “Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re” for the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. Alongside directing, he has dabbled in writing and acting, even appearing in Bengali films.

Sujoy Ghosh remains active in the film industry, continuously working on new stories.
