Suicide Bombing at Police Checkpoint in Pakistan Claims Two Lives and Injures Six

Islamabad, June 15: A suicide bombing occurred on Monday at a police checkpoint near the Wahga area, close to the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border in Pakistan. The attack resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left six others injured.

According to reports from the Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune, unknown assailants drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the checkpoint, triggering a massive explosion.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Sadiq Baloch confirmed that two police officers lost their lives in the attack, while six others sustained serious injuries. All injured personnel were promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.

Officials indicated that the blast completely destroyed the structure of the checkpoint. Following the attack, large contingents of police and security forces arrived at the scene. The area was cordoned off, and a search operation was initiated to gather evidence. The explosion also caused damage to the roofs and walls of several nearby homes, injuring more than a dozen local residents.

During a media briefing, DPO Sadiq Baloch stated that the suicide bomber was also killed in the blast, and an investigation into the attack has commenced.

Earlier, local media reported that armed assailants had targeted two police officers in separate incidents in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province last week. In these shootings, both officers were killed.

One police constable was attacked on June 12 while returning home from a gathering on the Bannu-Miranshah road. Initial reports indicated that unknown armed assailants opened fire on him, resulting in severe injuries that led to his death at the scene.

In a separate incident, another police constable was shot by unknown assailants outside his home. He was critically injured and taken to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
