Ranchi, August 10: Thousands of students protesting against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations broke through the first barricade near the old assembly complex on Monday and advanced towards the assembly. The students, carrying the national flag, posters, and banners, arrived from 24 districts, escalating tensions as they moved forward.
The JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum has urged students to protest peacefully. Police had set up barricades to stop the students near the old assembly. However, a large number of students managed to cross the first barricade and continued their march. The administration has tightened security around the assembly and nearby areas. The students are demanding the cancellation of controversial exams, including the 14th JPSC preliminary exam, improvements in the recruitment process, and a CBI investigation into the matter.
On Sunday, the third round of talks between the government and student representatives ended without resolution. Following this, students announced their intention to encircle the assembly on Monday. Since morning, crowds of students have gathered at Birsa Chowk, the old assembly complex, and surrounding areas. Students from 24 districts have arrived in Ranchi via buses, trains, and private vehicles. Many spent the night at Jaypal Singh Munda Stadium, Atal Smriti Vendor Market, and nearby complexes.
In the midst of the student protests, the BJP has also launched a campaign against the government. A meeting of BJP legislators was held under the leadership of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi. After discussing strategies regarding the movement, BJP legislators and workers marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence. Around 9:45 AM, BJP leaders and workers surrounded the Chief Minister’s residence.
The police detained several BJP leaders and workers during the protest, including Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, state BJP president Aditya Sahu, and several legislators. In light of the assembly encirclement, strict security measures have been implemented in the capital.
A heavy police presence is deployed around the assembly, with barricades and barbed wire set up at various locations. After crossing the first barricade, the students are now focused on the security arrangements ahead. While the administration aims to prevent students from reaching the assembly complex, the students remain steadfast in their demands.
