Ranchi, August 2: The student protest against irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment exams entered its ninth day on Sunday. In a significant development, student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has initiated an indefinite hunger strike to support their demands.
Protesters at the site reiterated their calls for a fair investigation into the examination process, action against those responsible for alleged irregularities, and transparency in the recruitment process. They emphasized that their movement is entirely peaceful and will continue until their demands are met.
While announcing his hunger strike, Mahto criticized the government for failing to make concrete decisions regarding the students’ demands. The protesting students are calling for the cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary exam, a fair investigation into the controversial exams conducted by the JPSC and JSSC-CGL, and strict action against the culprits.
Mahto pointed out that nearly a month has passed since the results of the JPSC preliminary exam were announced, yet the state government has not taken any substantial action. This has led to growing frustration and anger among the candidates. He warned that if the government does not take positive steps soon, the protest will escalate further.
Meanwhile, investigative agencies have gathered crucial information while probing the irregularities in the JPSC recruitment process. Based on these findings, the scope of the investigation has now expanded to include certain recruitment exams conducted by the JSSC. However, no official statement has been released by the investigative agencies regarding this matter. It is worth noting that the protests began after candidates alleged discrepancies and corruption in the examination process following the announcement of the 14th JPSC preliminary exam results.
