
New Delhi, June 20: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the cornerstone of inclusive and sustainable economic development in the country. This statement was made by Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi during the inauguration of the ‘BRICS MSME Forum 2026’ held in Agra.
He emphasized that the MSME sector currently faces numerous challenges, including access to financial support, adopting new technologies, ensuring sustainability, and reaching markets. He noted that collective efforts are essential to address these issues.
Manjhi highlighted the vast potential and complementary strengths among BRICS nations. He stated that if member countries consistently promote dialogue and collaboration, they can establish a robust framework that positions MSMEs as a leading force for innovation, exports, and job creation.
The forum saw participation from government representatives, policymakers, industry leaders, and private sector experts from BRICS member and partner countries. Discussions focused on strengthening the MSME ecosystem, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing global competitiveness.
Uttar Pradesh’s MSME Minister Bhupendra Chaudhary remarked that the state has become one of the fastest-growing economic regions in the country, with the MSME sector playing a crucial role. He noted that MSMEs have significantly contributed to job creation and grassroots development. The state government is continuously working on infrastructure development, policy support, skill development, and digital empowerment.
Additionally, MSME Ministry Secretary Bharat Kheda stated that MSMEs are not just economic units; they are vital engines of innovation, employment, entrepreneurship, and regional development. He pointed out the immense potential for cooperation among BRICS nations in areas such as technology adoption, sustainable manufacturing, digital transformation, skill development, and market access.
It is noteworthy that this forum was organized following the third BRICS SME Working Group meeting. It is considered a significant step towards redefining economic cooperation among BRICS nations and strengthening the MSME sector on a global scale.
