Strengthening India-Bangladesh Ties: A Historic Partnership

New Delhi, March 27: India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, warmly welcomed the new government of Bangladesh on Thursday. He emphasized the deep historical, cultural, and linguistic ties that bind the two nations, adding a unique warmth and closeness to their relationship.

Speaking at the National Day reception organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Singh highlighted the shared heritage stemming from the 1971 Liberation War and the sacrifices made against oppression and hatred.

He stated, “These deep ties of solidarity form the foundation of our bilateral partnership, which is based on trust, shared values, and a mutual commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in our region. Our collaboration has always been guided by a people-centered approach, focusing on enhancing the everyday lives of citizens. Whether it’s improving connectivity through rail, road, inland waterways, and energy networks, or facilitating trade and the movement of goods and people, our cooperation aims to deliver tangible benefits.”

Singh noted that India and Bangladesh are building a partnership that is strategic, people-focused, robust, and future-oriented.

He further remarked, “Our progress reflects a spirit of sustained cooperation nurtured by the continuous efforts of both sides. Development partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and cross-border projects have been inspired by mutual priorities and a shared vision of inclusive development.”

The minister pointed out that Bangladesh’s Independence Day is a significant moment in their shared history, symbolizing the spirit of self-determination and the extraordinary patience of both nations’ peoples. India looks forward to partnering with Bangladesh to promote mutual progress and prosperity.

He added, “In this spirit of cooperation, India warmly welcomes the new government of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first leaders to engage with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, reflecting the high importance India places on this close and enduring relationship. On February 17, 2026, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla represented India at the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new cabinet.”

He concluded, “As the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, his presence sent a strong message of India’s deep commitment to democratic values and a readiness to engage constructively with the mandate of the Bangladeshi people.”
