Strengthening Cooperation is Key for Mutual Success Between the U.S. and China: Sean Stein

Beijing, March 29: “American CEOs are very excited about China,” said Sean Stein, president of the U.S.-China Business Council, in an exclusive interview with the Chinese news agency Xinhua. He recently participated in the annual China Development Forum 2026 held in Beijing.

During the interview, he highlighted the American business community’s focused attention on the Chinese market. “If you look back ten years, everything revolved around the ‘Chinese market.’ At that time, multinational companies chose China because of its over a billion consumers.”

According to Sean Stein, the situation has now changed significantly, with a greater emphasis on “Chinese platforms.” He stated that while the Chinese market remains crucial, American companies are increasingly focusing on leveraging Chinese technology and partners to strengthen joint research projects, enhance supply chains, and gain a competitive edge globally.

Stein believes that China’s evolving role, from being the “world’s factory” to a “global innovation laboratory,” will present more opportunities for multinational corporations. More American companies are studying Chinese innovations and are considering ways to deepen collaboration in industrial and supply chains, not just in China but on a global scale to enhance their competitiveness.

International attention is now focused on U.S.-China economic and trade cooperation. Discussing the expectations of the American business community, Sean Stein emphasized that only by strengthening cooperation can the U.S. and China achieve mutual success. He believes there is a pressing need for better and more effective communication between the two largest economies in the world. How the U.S. and China can collaborate in a way that benefits everyone is something many are eagerly anticipating.
