New Delhi, April 4: India expressed gratitude to Armenia on Saturday for its assistance in evacuating Indian citizens from Iran.
Several Indian fishermen were safely evacuated from Iran via Armenia.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar acknowledged this support in a post, stating, “Today, I thank Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the Armenian government for helping evacuate Indian fishermen from Iran through Armenia.”
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, hundreds of Indian nationals have crossed the border into Armenia via land routes in recent days. India is collaborating with local governments to ensure a safe transit route for its citizens.
Earlier this week, India also thanked Azerbaijan for its assistance. During a media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that approximately 204 Indian citizens successfully reached Azerbaijan from Iran through land border checkpoints. He added that many have already returned to India, with more expected in the coming days.
Jaiswal stated, “Our ambassador in Azerbaijan is present. A total of 204 Indian citizens have successfully exited Iran for Azerbaijan via land border checkpoints. They will return home, with many already back and others expected to follow in the next few days.”
He further expressed appreciation for the Azerbaijani government’s support in facilitating the exit of Indian citizens from Iran via land routes. “There is ongoing consultation and regular exchanges between our two sides,” he noted.
India has previously commended Armenia for its efforts in evacuation. On March 16, EAM Jaishankar praised the cooperation in challenging circumstances and thanked the Armenian government and its people for helping safely evacuate over 550 Indian citizens from Iran.
