Chennai, June 14: DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, launched a verbal attack on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday. He raised concerns regarding Vijay’s recent trip to New Delhi, accusing him of applying double standards compared to his previous criticisms of political opponents.
Stalin referenced remarks allegedly made by Vijay during Stalin’s own tenure as Chief Minister when he visited the national capital. According to the DMK leader, Vijay had accused him of visiting Delhi to evade investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and suggested that the DMK had made a secret pact with the BJP.
Stalin stated, “Whenever I traveled to Delhi as Chief Minister, the current Chief Minister would level various accusations against me. He claimed I went there to escape ED cases and suggested that I was bowing to the BJP for political gain.”
In light of Vijay’s recent Delhi visit, Stalin posed several questions to the Chief Minister. He asked, “What was your purpose for going? Did you go to Delhi to avoid the CBI case in Karur? Are you afraid to criticize the BJP because you believe it could create difficulties for your government?”
Stalin emphasized that these questions aimed to highlight the contradictions in Vijay’s political statements. He argued that the accusations currently being made are similar to those previously directed at the DMK leadership.
The former Chief Minister asserted that he would refrain from making personal attacks, unlike what he claimed Vijay had done in the past. He maintained that participating in government events in the national capital is part of a Chief Minister’s responsibilities and should not be viewed solely through a political lens.
Stalin remarked, “I will not lower myself by making derogatory comments about the Chief Minister simply because he attended a government event in Delhi.”
This statement comes amid escalating political clashes between the ruling AIADMK-led government and the opposition DMK, with both sides continuously accusing each other regarding their ties with the BJP and the central government.
