New Delhi, 19 November (Daily Kiran). With the winter season affecting the digestive system, issues like bloating, constipation, gas and indigestion become increasingly common. Health experts recommend adding sprouted grains to the daily diet, describing them as highly beneficial for both physical and mental well-being.

According to the Ayush Department of Madhya Pradesh, sprouted grains are extremely helpful for digestive health and provide a simple, natural remedy for related problems.

Sprouted grains not only support digestion but also nourish the entire body, promoting overall wellness. During the sprouting process, the nutrients within the grains multiply significantly. Protein levels in regular moong and chana increase when sprouted. Similarly, the content of Vitamin C, Vitamin B-complex, iron, calcium and antioxidants also rises sharply. The biggest advantage is that sprouting activates enzymes that help the body digest food more easily.

Including sprouts in everyday meals offers numerous benefits. Their rich fibre content helps relieve constipation, gas and indigestion while keeping the intestines clean. Due to active enzymes, the body absorbs vitamins and minerals more efficiently. Sprouts are low in calories yet filling, helping in weight management by reducing hunger. Vitamin C and antioxidants help protect against infections and boost immunity. Higher iron content is beneficial for those with anaemia, supporting better blood levels. Sprouts also improve skin and hair health — biotin and protein help reduce hair fall and add shine.

Sprouted grains are also considered beneficial for people with diabetes. Their low glycaemic index makes them suitable for diabetic diets.

Preparing sprouts is simple and hassle-free. Soak moong, chana, black chana or mixed grains overnight. In the morning, drain the water and tie them in a wet cloth for 8 to 10 hours. The next day, fresh sprouts can be eaten as a chaat with lemon, salt, black salt and roasted cumin, or added to vegetables. They make an ideal breakfast option.
