Bhopal, August 12: A special court in Gwalior has sentenced two individuals to three years of rigorous imprisonment for impersonating candidates during the Vyapam examination. The court found Amitesh and Vipin Kumar guilty of taking the exam on behalf of another candidate.
On Wednesday, the court imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on each of the accused. This case was reopened by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following directives from the Supreme Court on August 5, 2015. The original FIR was filed on March 9, 2014, based on a complaint from the examination center supervisor at a government PG college in Guna.
The FIR alleged that a person, posing as candidate Vipin Kumar, was caught during the examination as his appearance did not match the photograph on record. Following preliminary investigations, the college supervisor lodged a complaint with the Cantt police station in Guna against the impersonator.
The accused identified himself as Amitesh from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and admitted to taking the exam in place of the original candidate, Vipin Kumar, from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. After the investigation concluded, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Amitesh (the solver) and Vipin Kumar (the candidate) on October 6, 2016. Following the court’s hearing on Wednesday, both were convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
