Spanish Prime Minister Criticizes Military Actions of the US and Israel

Madrid, March 26: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez reiterated his opposition to the ongoing war spreading across the Middle East. He criticized the military actions of the United States and Israel in this context.

Sánchez defended his government’s economic package aimed at mitigating the effects of this conflict. He emphasized that Spain will not support military actions that violate international law.

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, he stated, “Spain will neither be a partner in illegal aggression nor in the lies spoken under the guise of freedom, at least not while I am Prime Minister.”

Speaking about relations with allied countries, Sánchez stressed the need for an independent and critical stance. He noted that being an ally does not mean blindly following orders; it requires the courage to stand firm and tell the truth to one’s partners when the path is wrong.

Sánchez also warned that this conflict could escalate further in the region. He mentioned that Israel’s military actions could replicate the “devastation and suffering of Gaza” in Lebanon.

Calling for an end to the conflict, he asserted, “Today, Spain stands as an example in defending peace and international law.”

He added, “We will demand that this war cease. It is entirely unjust for some to ignite fires in the world while the rest of us are forced to swallow the ashes of that fire.”

On the economic front, Sánchez defended an anti-crisis package exceeding five billion euros and warned that the war will impact the economy.

He stated, “This war is a grave mistake, the cost of which we neither accept nor are willing to pay.” He highlighted that its consequences will not translate into higher wages or affordable housing, which is the “real tragedy.”
