Jammu, March 17: Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of undermining the dignity of Parliament. In an interview with a news agency in Jammu, Vaid expressed his concerns over Gandhi and his colleagues staging a protest on the Parliament steps, drinking tea and biscuits, and chanting slogans. He stated that such actions are disrespectful to the institution.
Vaid emphasized that the Speaker, Om Birla, had appealed to all MPs to maintain the dignity of the House, yet such incidents continue to occur. He noted that there is widespread outrage in the country regarding this behavior. Various former officials associated with different services have written letters urging Rahul Gandhi to recognize his responsibilities and apologize to the nation for his conduct.
According to Vaid, there is a noticeable lack of seriousness in Rahul Gandhi’s behavior. He should understand the significance of his position. When he speaks, people expect to hear meaningful discourse, but they often end up disappointed. Gandhi fails to effectively raise pertinent issues or challenge the government, often resorting to irrelevant topics, which leads to ridicule. He must realize the importance of the Leader of Opposition (LOP) role.
Vaid remarked, “Parliament operates on our tax money, so every minute must be utilized wisely. All pressing national issues should be discussed, but that is not happening.”
On the Middle East conflict, Vaid stated that India has not initiated any war. However, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Foreign Minister for successfully evacuating two ships during this crisis, marking a significant achievement. Only Indian vessels were granted safe passage after China. The Indian government continues to play a vital role even in such disasters.
He urged the opposition to collaborate with the government during this crisis and consider their contributions. Instead, they are spreading unnecessary panic over the LPG crisis. This is not solely India’s disaster but a global situation that we must navigate with skill.
Regarding Pakistan’s airstrike in Afghanistan, Vaid condemned the actions, particularly those of Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, which have resulted in over 400 deaths and more than 250 injuries. The Indian government has condemned these actions, and the entire nation stands with Afghanistan. Pakistan’s arrogance may lead to severe consequences, and if Munir continues on this path, the situation in Pakistan may worsen.
On a report concerning the RSS, Vaid stated that calls to ban the organization are unjustified. The RSS promotes patriotism and fosters family and community ties. He accused Congress of politicizing the issue and echoing the rhetoric of Pakistan.
Regarding Islamophobia, Vaid mentioned that even the United Nations has criticized Pakistan on this matter, affirming that the Indian government’s stance is entirely justified.
