New Delhi, June 23: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, known for his explosive batting, recalled the emotional moment when he received his first Indian team jersey. He expressed that at that moment, he felt as if he had rediscovered the reason he first picked up a bat.
In a video shared by the BCCI, Vaibhav stated, “Words cannot describe it. The reason I picked up the bat on the first day and stepped onto the field for practice has now come true. The biggest step of that journey has been completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words.”
He added, “When I saw that T-shirt, it felt like a dream. I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, things happen that you never even imagined. At that moment, we don’t have the words to react. I felt exactly that way.”
The BCCI captioned the video, “Ladies and gentlemen, the moment the nation has been waiting for has arrived. Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian team jersey, witness this very special moment.”
At just 15 years and 71 days old, Vaibhav was selected for the Indian senior team for the T20 series against Ireland and England, as well as for the 2026 Asian Games. With this selection, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record for the youngest player to be chosen for the national team.
Tendulkar made his debut for India against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. If Suryavanshi gets the chance to debut against Ireland, he will become the youngest player to represent the Indian senior men’s team.
Vaibhav earned his spot in the Indian team after a stellar performance for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, where he won the Orange Cap. He scored 776 runs in 16 matches, including one century and five half-centuries.
Looking ahead, the Indian team will play two T20 matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast. Following that, they will compete in five T20 matches in England from July 1 to 11. The men’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games will commence on September 24.
