South Africa Sets 188-Run Target Against Afghanistan in T20 World Cup

Ahmedabad, February 11: The T20 World Cup 2026 Group D match between Afghanistan and South Africa is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium. South Africa batted first, scoring 187 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. South Africa had a rocky start, losing captain Aiden Markram for just 5 runs off 8 balls, falling to Fazalhaq Farooqi. After losing their first wicket at 12 runs, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton steadied the innings.

The duo formed a crucial partnership, adding 114 runs for the second wicket off just 61 balls. This threatening partnership was broken by Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan, who dismissed De Kock on the fourth ball of the 13th over and Rickelton on the sixth ball, delivering a double blow to the opposition.

De Kock scored 59 runs off 41 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 5 fours, while Rickelton contributed 61 runs off 28 balls with 4 sixes and 5 fours. Dewald Brevis added 23 runs off 19 balls, including 1 six and 1 four, but Tristan Stubbs had a disappointing outing, scoring only 1 run.

David Miller (20 runs off 15 balls) and Marco Jansen (16 runs off 7 balls) provided a late surge, helping South Africa reach a total of 187 runs in their 20 overs.

For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed 1 wicket for 32 runs in 4 overs, while all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai took 3 wickets for 41 runs in his 4 overs.
