
Wellington, March 22: South Africa has leveled the series against New Zealand at 2-2 after winning the fourth T20 match by 19 runs. Chasing a target of 165 runs, New Zealand was bowled out for 145.
New Zealand needed 165 runs to win the match and the series. However, their batting faltered against South Africa’s bowling attack, collapsing to 145 runs in just 18.5 overs. Opener Tim Robinson was the top scorer with 32 runs, while Dan Cleaver contributed 26 runs. No other batsman managed to make a significant impact.
For South Africa, Gerhard Koetzee took 3 wickets, while Otenil Bartman, P Subrayen, and Keshav Maharaj each claimed 2 wickets. Vian Mulder also added 1 wicket to the tally.
South Africa batted first after winning the toss, scoring 164 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Wicketkeeper-batsman Connor Esterhuizen was the standout performer with 57 runs off 36 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 7 fours. Other notable contributions came from Tony de Georghi, who scored 23 runs, Rubin Hermann with 28 runs, and both Dianne Forester and Jason Smith, who each added 19 runs.
For New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson took 2 wickets, while Zaki Fox, Benjamin Sears, and Cole Moconchi each took 1 wicket.
With the series now tied at 2-2, the fifth and decisive match will take place on March 25 in Christchurch.
Additionally, South Africa’s women’s team is also touring New Zealand for a 5-match T20 series, where they have already lost the series with New Zealand leading 3-1. The final match for the women’s team will also be held on March 25 in Christchurch.
