
New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : South Africa secured the tri-series title by defeating Zimbabwe by 48 runs in the final match held on September 6, 2026. Chasing a formidable target of 206 runs, Zimbabwe was all out for 157 in just 18 overs.
Zimbabwe’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Ben Curran was dismissed without scoring. Brian Bennett managed only 6 runs from 5 balls before falling. Innocent Kaia, who had performed well in the previous match, could only muster 9 runs from 11 balls. Wesley Madhevere also struggled, scoring just 6 runs from 5 balls. Captain Sikandar Raza faced 18 balls but only scored 16 runs, while Ryan Burl was bowled out for 13 runs off 10 balls.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani contributed just 3 runs, and Newman Nyamhuri followed suit with a mere 7 runs. Brad Evans, who took two wickets with the ball, shone with the bat as well, scoring an unbeaten 56 runs off just 31 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a win for his team. Duan Jansen led the South African bowling attack with 3 wickets for 38 runs, while captain Fortuin also claimed three wickets. Ethan Bosch added 2 more to the tally.
In the title clash, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. A solid opening partnership between Connor Esterhuizen and Jordan Harman set the tone, as they amassed 84 runs for the first wicket in just 7.5 overs. Esterhuizen scored 32 runs off 23 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Harman delivered an explosive performance, scoring 53 runs off 29 balls with 8 fours and 1 six.
Dewald Brevis also looked in good form, contributing 32 runs with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Tony de Jorgie fell short, scoring 17 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Raza. Rubin Harman added 27 runs off 16 balls, including 3 fours and a six.
South Africa finished their innings at 205 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Newman Nyamhuri and Brad Evans each took two wickets for Zimbabwe, while Sikandar Raza claimed one.
